About North Park Pool

If you’re looking for a classic Pittsburgh summer tradition, it’s hard to beat a day at North Park Pool. Tucked inside one of Allegheny County’s most popular parks, this historic swimming pool has been helping families cool off for generations… and it’s still one of our favorite places to spend a hot summer afternoon!

Whether you’re bringing toddlers, school-age kids, teens, or just want a relaxing day by the water, North Park Pool has something for everyone.

One of the Largest Public Pools Around Pittsburgh

North Park Pool isn’t just another neighborhood pool, it’s one of the largest public swimming pools in the region. The massive two-million-gallon pool offers plenty of space to spread out, even on busy summer weekends.

Unlike many local pools, there are different areas designed for different ages and swimming abilities, making it easy for the whole family to enjoy the day together.

Perfect for Families with Young Kids

One of my favorite things about North Park Pool is that little ones have their own dedicated space.

Families will find:

  • A zero-depth entry baby pool
  • A splash pad with interactive water features
  • Easy access for younger children and beginning swimmers

Because the shallow areas are separate from the main pool, it feels much less overwhelming if you’re visiting with toddlers or preschoolers. There’s even shaded canopies covering areas of the kiddie pool.

Plenty of Room to Swim

Older kids and adults can enjoy the enormous main swimming pool, whether they want to splash around, practice swimming, or simply cool off.

The pool also includes:

  • Large open swimming areas
  • Lap lanes
  • Accessible pool lift
  • Plenty of deck space for relaxing between swims
  • Water Obstacle Course

Swimmers are required to take a deep water swim test. Upon completing they’ll receive a wristband that indicates they’re allowed to be in the deep end.

Know Before You Go

Some rules you should know before your visit…

  • No coolers, no outside food or drink. They do have a snack bar with some basic food selections (hot dogs, pizza, nachos, pretzels, chips) and various ice cream treats. If you do decide to eat there, you are required to keep food and drink in the snack bar area. There are plenty of benches and shaded tables nearby.
  • No large outside floats or pool toys. Rafts are available for rental near the snack bar.
  • Children 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult age 21 or older under Allegheny County’s chaperone policy.
