Hi, I’m Sara!

Professional memory maker.

Weekend planner.

Pittsburgh adventure enthusiast.

Author of Play Pittsburgh.

My family and I call Pittsburgh’s North Hills home, but I’ve been exploring the city and surrounding communities for much longer than that.

Since 2005, I’ve lived and worked all over the Pittsburgh area. Along the way, I’ve learned that some of the best family adventures aren’t always the biggest attractions. They’re often tucked away in neighborhood parks, local libraries, community festivals, splash pads, and hidden gems that most people drive right past without a second thought.

That’s exactly why I created Play Pittsburgh.

My passion for finding family-friendly fun started long before Play Pittsburgh existed. During my early years of motherhood, I worked as an early childhood educator, where one of my responsibilities was planning weekly field trips for a summer program. Each week, I searched for local, affordable activities that would entertain, engage, and inspire more than 50 children between the ages of 5 and 12.

That experience taught me something I’ve carried with me ever since: creating great family memories doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Sometimes the best days are found in the places you least expect.

Today, after 17 years of being a Pittsburgh mom, I’m still doing what I’ve always done… searching for quality, affordable fun and sharing the best finds with other families. Whether you’re looking for a new playground, a free weekend event, a seasonal adventure, or just an excuse to get everyone out of the house, I’m here to help you discover all the family fun Pittsburgh has to offer.
