Located right off the Wexford exit from 79, Soergel Orchards is a country store, garden center, wine shop, family farm and children’s play yard. Since 2008, it’s been one of our favorite locations for outdoor summer fun and Fall festivals.

Adults will love the great selection of home and garden items. There are three separate buildings. The main building  contains a small grocery/produce store, wine store, small deli, home goods, ice and cream shop. Next door visitors will find the Gift Barn with a unique selection of items. Follow the path up the walkway and you’ll find Pittsburgh’s premier gluten-free, allergen-free, natural and organic store: Naturally Soergel’s.

However, there’s a good chance you won’t be a able to make it through all the stores without the kiddos pulling on your leg to go play in the amazing outdoor play area. To the right there’s a small wooden village of houses and stores. Children are also welcome to climb aboard the large wooden train, pirate ship or huge monster truck. The area is free to play in and is a shaded area in the summertime. During festivals you can also find bouncy houses, pony rides and children’s games.

You’ll also find a nearby Sluice. For about $4, visitors can buy a small bag of dirt to sift through and find hidden “gems” (yours to keep). You can find the bags towards the back of the main store. We’ve done this a couple times and it’s a lot of fun! There are a decent amount of gems in each bag and they also give you a card to help identify each stone.

Across the way you’ll find a small barn with farm animals. Admission is free but there is a quarter machine for feed. You’ll most likely be able to pet the goats and the donkey. Dudley, the enormous pig will most likely be sleeping… tell him we said hello. 🙂 There are also sheep, rabbits and chickens.

Although we haven’t been in yet, Soergels recently put up their Butterfly House. For $3, visitors will get the chance to get up close with butterflies and learn about their lifecycle (this area is open weekends from 11am-3pm).

Soergels has tons of festivals and events throughout the year including a Strawberry Festival in early June, Corn Roasts in mid-July through August, Fall Festival in mid-September through October and a Snowflake Festival in early December (with horse drawn carriage rides!).
