Kennywood Holiday Light Show
This year marks the 4th annual Kennywood Holiday Light Show that showcases over 1 million dazzling lights, live entertainment, holiday shows, visits with Santa Claus and more!
It’s a must-see attraction for the whole family.

From November 28th until December 21st, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night from 5-9pm, the park is transformed into a magical Winter Wonderland. During this special seasonal event, guests are invited to enjoy visits with Santa, ride rides, enjoy choreographed light shows and more!
My family and I recently had the pleasure of experiencing our first-time visit!
Glittering Lights and Festive Fun
We arrived around 5pm, when the park initially opened. Parking was free and traffic was minimal. We entered the park and my sons eye lit up as he was greeted by Rudolph and his holiday friends. After an awesome photo op we strolled down the path and marveled at the thousands of blinking lights on the display above us.

Next, we made our way to the rides. There are over a dozen rides open, weather permitting: paratrooper, kangaroo, Merry-Go-Round, Gingerbread Express, Ghostwood Estates, Turtle and up to 8 rides in Kiddieland. The lines were minimal and we got on each ride very quickly.
I think the Paratrooper was one of our favorites- both to ride and watch. It provided an amazing view of the holiday lights and with the holiday music playing it was such a memorable experience. I watched my son’s eyes light up and smile wipe across his face… totally priceless.

Although we weren’t able to catch it, the Kennywood Holiday Light Show also offers celebrity readings of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas at 7pm. We’ll have to be sure to catch it next year! Here’s a list of the line up of this year’s events:
- Saturday, December 13th- Jennifer Antkowiak, KDKA
- Sunday, December 14th- Nomi Leasure, Pittsburgh’s CW Green Team
- Friday, December 19th- Jon Burnett, KDKA-TV | CBS Pittsburgh
- Saturday, December 20th- WPXI Stephen Cropper
- Sunday, December 21st- Rick Sebak, WQED

If you’re looking to warm up, stop inside the Parkside Cafe to enjoy the stunning model railroad display and decorate cookies. Nearby there’s also a large bonfire with plenty of seating. Also note, we forgot gloves but were able to purchase a pair in one of the booths. They offer a variety of light-up toys, hats and gloves. My best advice is to dress warm!
Before you leave, be sure to stop by for the Lagoon show. Every 30 minutes they have the most spectacular choreographed light show set to holiday melodies. Each show lasts about 10 minutes.
