This one is an absolute must-see. We were planning our next trip back before we even left this playground.
The large brass structure of a gentle giant, by New York artist Tom Otterness, is the centerpiece to the newly renovated Riverfront Park in Aspinwall.

“Playground” has four slides on the arms and legs, ladders, hiding spots and you can even climb up into the giant’s head. Dozens of tiny figurines can be found throughout the structure in unique and funny poses- we counted about 25 total.
The beautiful playground is nestled in beside the Allegheny River among a few trees. There were plenty of benches and shade – calm, serene and very whimsical. It’s a modern playground that parents with a love of design can especially appreciate.

One of only six worldwide, “Playground” was made possible by over $1million dollars in fundraising. And who doesn’t want to climb around $1,000,000 worth of art?! 🙂
There’s a small walking trail easy enough to navigate with a stroller. If you’re lucky enough, you can grab a seat, relax on a lounge chair and enjoy the breeze for a minute (haha, probably not if you have the kids).

Heads Up!
Just some things to know before you go…
I didn’t see any public bathrooms.
The playground is very close to river and not fenced in.
The slides are very fast, which is awesome, but be especially careful on the slides down the legs as there are benches that children could fall into.

Directions
This was our first visit. I wasn’t sure how to find the playground but it was very easy to find and park once we arrived.
Aspinwall Riverfront Park is located on the Allegheny River near the Highland Park Bridge in Aspinwall. The address is 285 River Avenue, Aspinwall PA 15215. Please be careful upon driving into the entrance of the park – visitors must cross an active railroad line.
