1. Pittsburgh Botanical Gardens Grand Opening 

The Pittsburgh Botanic Garden will be a world-class garden and one-of-a-kind regional attraction. It will be the region’s first major outdoor public garden. A “living museum” with documented collections of plants, beautiful and artistic garden displays and education programs related to horticulture, botany and nature, the Garden is also committed to taking a leadership role in the stewardship of natural resources, and working within the Pittsburgh community to promote environmental awareness. 2. 16th Annual Lake Arthur Regatta 

Live entertainment, water, air, and land events, craft and food vendors, children’s activities, Smokey Bear and sailboat races are just of few of the fun activities to experience at this year’s Regatta. There are even Saturday night fireworks over the lake! Admission and parking are FREE. (more info)

3. Pillow Fight @ Pitt 

Giant Pillow Fight at Schenley Park 8th Annual then Free Movie “Frozen.” At 8:20pm SHARP! (the movie starts close to 9pm at Dusk) there will be a mystery signal and a GIANT PILLOW FIGHT WILL BREAK OUT! Kid Friendly, Bring your own Pillow! (BYOP!) (more info)

4. Free admission day @ Phipps 

Guests will be admitted free of charge on Monday, Aug. 4, 2014 thanks to a generous grant from the Jack Buncher Foundation. Join Phipps on this special day to enjoy the Summer Flower Show, Butterfly Forest and Tropical Forest Conservatory. (more info)

5. Kindergarten… here I come!

Special event at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. Children entering kindergarten this fall and their caregivers are invited to take part in the 10th Annual Kindergarten…here I come! for activities that prepare and excite them for the significant milestone of attending kindergarten. 6. August Fun Fest @ Cedar Creek Park

August Fun Fest at Cedar Creek Park is in its 28th year! This festival features a variety of food, entertainment and children’s activities that make August Fun Fest an exciting event for the whole family! Admission and parking are free to the public. (more info)

 

7. 40th Annual Beaver Country River Regatta

Boat races, anything that floats race, lighted boat parade, kayak race and children’s activities. Plenty of food vendors, live entertainment and much more! Fireworks Sunday night. Family event. Free! (more info)

 

8. Teddy Bear Picnic @ Reilly’s Summerseat Farm

Gather at Reilly’s in early August under the spreading Linden trees with your picnic lunch, kids, and teddy bears in hand. The day’s activities include a morning of games, stories, and a hayride. There will also be a chance to milk a cow and feed the animals. (more info)

9. Family Outdoor Festival 

Join Venture Outdoors for an afternoon of outdoor fun for the whole family! The Venture Outdoors Family Outdoors Festival at Allegheny Commons has free beginner-friendly activities for everyone to experience. Try a Tyke Hike, scaling a climbing wall, paddling a kayak on Lake Elizabeth, using a GPS unit to find secret treasures, biking around the park or participating in crafts and other activities for kids of all ages.(more info)

 

10. Renaissance Festival

Featuring a cast of hundreds of authentically costumed merrymakers living and working throughout the village and performing, continuously, upon the Festival’s stages, the illusion of a rollicking 16th Century festival day is created. Impromptu encounters with the royalty and peasantry of Tudor England are commonplace. (more info)
