If you’re looking for a playground in Marshall Township that’s a little different from the rest, Altmyer Park Playground is worth adding to your list.
Altmyer Park Site Address: 607 Wexford-Bayne Road, Wexford, PA
Our family already loves Knob Hill Community Park, so we decided to check out Altmyer Park Playground to see how it compared. While it’s smaller than Knob Hill, it offers a completely different play experience with nature-inspired equipment, imaginative play spaces, and a few playground features you don’t see very often anymore.
My daughter and I visited recently, and we ended up having a blast.

Altmyer Park Playground Features
Altmyer Park Playground includes:
- Two embankment slides
- A large sandbox
- A traditional see-saw
- Swings
- A large net climbing structure
- A playhouse, wooden tractor, table, and stools for imaginative play
- A Free Little Library
- Nature-inspired play elements throughout the playground
The playground is built on two different levels, giving kids plenty of opportunities to climb, explore, and move between play areas. While it isn’t a large destination playground, the unique layout makes it feel more adventurous than a typical neighborhood park.

Our Favorite Part
The highlight of our visit was easily the see-saw.
It’s one of those classic pieces of playground equipment that has become surprisingly hard to find. It took us a few tries to figure out the right rhythm, but once we did, we couldn’t stop laughing. Sometimes the simplest playground equipment ends up creating the best memories.

Things to Know Before You Visit
Altmyer Park Playground has a small picnic pavilion that’s perfect for a snack or lunch after playing. There’s also a short paved walking trail nearby if you’d like to take a quick stroll, although it’s fairly brief.
One thing to keep in mind is that the playground has very little shade. On hot summer afternoons, you’ll probably want to visit earlier in the day or later in the evening.
The park also doesn’t have a large amount of open green space beyond the playground itself, so if your kids love wide-open fields for running or playing ball, you may want to pair your visit with another nearby park.

Is Altmyer Park Playground Worth Visiting?
Absolutely.
Altmyer Park Playground in Marshall Township isn’t the biggest playground near Pittsburgh, but that’s not what makes it special. Between the nature-inspired design, imaginative play areas, classic see-saw, and unique climbing equipment, it offers something different from many newer playgrounds.
If you’re already visiting Soergel Orchards or spending the day around Wexford, Altmyer Park Playground is only about 10 minutes away and makes a fun stop for families with young children.
If you’ve already visited Knob Hill Community Park, Altmyer Park is another great Marshall Township playground that’s well worth exploring.
