Laser Storm is a family entertainment center with an arcade, climbing wall simulator and huge laser tag arena. During laser tag, each group will be divided into two teams and will enter through their designated team entrances. Wildwood Highlands is a huge family entertainment center located just minutes away from North Park. They’re open year round with tons of outside and inside attractions: kiddie rides, bumper boats, go karts and miniature golf in the summer; snow tubing in the winter. The indoor fun continues year round with a four-level jungle gym, laser tag and a large arcade. This is a fun new trend in indoor fun- the trampoline park! It literally gives kids a chance to bounce off walls (and parents are invited, too). All jumpers are required to have a completed waiver on file prior to jumping. Carnegie Science Center’s mission is to delight, educate, and inspire through interactive experiences in science and technology. The Cathedral of Learning is a 42 story landmark that sits in the heart of the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. It is the second tallest gothic-styled building in the world. The Cathedral of Learning is home to a studio theater, food court, study lounges, offices, computer labs, and 29 Nationality Rooms that celebrate Pittsburgh’s diverse and rich heritage. Each of the Nationality Rooms took between 3 and 10 years to build and cost an average of $300,000 to complete. Many rooms contain authentic artifacts and materials from the country represented.

Named one of the nation’s ten top children’s museums by Parents magazine in 2011, the Museum provides hands on experiences for play and learning. Interactive exhibit areas include The Studio, Theater, Waterplay, Nursery, and Backyard. Notable pieces such Fred Rogers sweater and canvas tennis shoes are also included within the exhibits. The fourth floor Waterplay area underwent a recent renovation in 2013 and includes 20 different new exhibit components that let them pump, move, channel and dam the flow of water, and experience rain, spray and ice.

The Fort Ligonier History Museum Fort was once the spot of a British fortification from the French and Indian War located in Ligonier. The fort served as a staging area for the Forbes Expedition of 1758. Today, the museum includes a history gallery, French and Indian war art gallery, The World Ablaze: An Introduction to the Seven Years’ War Exhibit, the Hermitage, and the rare George Washington Collection, which showcases the George Washington Pistols.

Henry Clay Frick was an American industrialist chairman of the Carnegie Steel Company and played a major role in the formation of the giant U.S. Steel steel manufacturing. Frick was also an avid art collector. The museum, once the Frick’s family home, was converted into a museum of art and history in 1970 and contains pieces of art the Fricks collected over decades. The museum offers a full schedule of things for families to do all-year-round, from exhibitions, educational programs and tours to special family events.

The Block House was originally constructed in 1764 as a defensive redoubt for Fort Pitt, a key British fortification during the French and Indian War. It is the oldest authenticated structure in Western Pennsylvania. The interior of the Block House today is arranged for use as a historical site and small museum including historical exhibits related to the Block House.

Heinz History Center is Pennsylvania’s largest history museum with an astounding 275,000 square-foot space. Take a tour of America’s largest invention factory, Inventionland, which turns out 2,000-2,400 new inventions each year. Within the walls of the Davison company, there are 16 unique themed sets, such as a shipwrecked pirate ship, a faux cave, a giant robot and a castle complete with turrets and drawbridge where employees actually work. There are also three running waterfalls, life-like trees, butterflies and chirping birds. You’ll also find state-of-the art audio, video, and animation studio complete with sound room and one of the largest green screens in the tri-state area. Well, it’s not really a “museum” but there’s plenty to see! The National Aviary has over 500 birds from over 150 species from around the world. The Toonseum is one of only three museums in the United States dedicated exclusively to the cartoon arts. Inside this museum of cartoon art, exhibits rotate every few months. Apple Hill Playhouse is home of Orchard Performing Arts Company, Inc. (OPAC). They are a non-profit organization and strive “to preserve and advance the traditions of live theatre, through entertainment and education.” Their goal is to foster public interest in and awareness of the performing arts through mainstage and Children’s Theaters performances. Gemini Children’s Theater is a 6,385 square foot space with an interactive children’s theater.
