Riverview Park
Located in Pittsburgh’s North Side, Riverview park is home to walking trails, pavilions, a pool, ball field, dog park, playground, visitors center and more. They also host summertime concerts and movies in the park. Created in 1894 and covering 251 acres, the park is Allegheny County’s first and oldest park. Random fun fact: it actually use to be home to a small zoo!

Riverview Playground
Was this the best playground that we’ve ever been to? No. Did it have play equipment and did the kids look like they were having a good time? Yes. Sometimes, that’s all that matter.
If you’re looking for the specifics… I can’t say there was anything spectacular or extraordinary. The playground was fenced in and located near a restroom facility. The ground was coated with a thick rubber and the playground equipment included options for older and younger children. There were no sand or water features, the ground was warping and there were a few pieces of garbage on the ground. Nonetheless, I’ve seen worse.

Allegheny Observatory
Founded in 1859, the Allegheny Observatory is one Pittsburgh’s historic landmarks and also one of the major astronomical research institutions in the world. The Observatory is located in Riverview Park and the building is owned and operated by the University of Pittsburgh. When they’re not doing tours, the Allegheny Observatory is used as a research laboratory.
Tours include a short film presentation, a walking tour of the building and presentation of the 13” Fitz-Clark refractor (one of only two in existence). If it’s a clear night, you’ll have the opportunity to see celestial objects within range of the telescope that given night. Note: tours are not recommended for children under the age of 7.
