We’ve traveled North, South, East and West… in and around the city… to festivals, parades and parks and have never found a more fun (and affordable) place than Round Hill Park and Exhibit Farm. The 1,100 acre park is not only full of amazing hiking trails, but is also home to multiple playgrounds, a sprinkler park and a wonderful exhibit farm complete with rabbits, a cow, pigs, horses, a donkey, chickens, sheep and more! I’ve personally accompanied groups of children of all different ages, from 2-13 years, and there was something that intrigued every one of them.
Round Hill Exhibit Farm
Visitors are welcomed with ample parking. To the right you’ll find the exhibit farm. The lush, rolling green hills and white picket fences look like something out of a story book. Enter into the first barn and you’ll find adorable fuzzy black rabbits, a cow, a friendly horse, a donkey and a pig. Next door, children will have the opportunity to pet goats and check out chickens and turkey up close. Follow the path the the herb garden, take a seat and relax. Breathe in the air, enjoy the gorgeous view and maybe even pick a few dandelions. The path will eventually take you full circle where you can continue up into the pastures or chose to venture across the street to feed the ducks and geese.
Round Hill Park
Walk across the street and you’ll find a large pond with seating nearby. You can stand close to the waterline or watch from afar; either way there’s plenty of action to watch as the ducks frolic and splash through the water. Walk, skip or drive up the path a few hundred feet to the sprinkler park. The spray season runs from June 7th through September 1st. It’s conveniently located adjacent to a wonderful mega playground (similar to the black and yellow park in North Park). A nature trail can be found just behind (but there are also plenty of others). Easily spend the afternoon running back and forth!
Tips on Planning a Playdate
Plan ahead and bring plenty of drinks and snacks. Other than a couple on site vending machines, there’s nowhere to purchase food. However, there are plenty of picnic pavilions and benches so pack accordingly. Believe me, the troops will get hungry after all that running around! A small safety kit is useful as well- Benadryl, band-aids, sunscreen and bug spray as all the adventures will be outside. Of course, if you’re planning on running through the sprinklers don’t forget blankets, towels and maybe even a couple buckets and/or water toys.
