Summer Flower Show: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
This summer, Phipps invites visitors to “fall down the rabbit hole” with rooms inspired by the classic story. My family and I visited over Memorial Day weekend, right after the Summer Flower Show opened. We’ve been visiting Phipps for years, but this was one of those visits that reminded me why it’s such a special Pittsburgh spot.
The show includes whimsical garden displays, oversized features, storybook scenes, colorful flowers and familiar Wonderland characters throughout the Conservatory.
It’s the kind of exhibit that works well for different ages, too. Younger kids can look for characters and fun details, while older kids and adults can appreciate the flowers, design and all the little creative touches.

Know Before You Go
A few things to keep in mind before visiting:
- It can get really warm inside the Conservatory, especially in the tropical areas. Dress in layers.
- The paths are stroller accessible, but some areas can feel tight and harder to navigate when it’s busy.
- Reserving tickets in advance can help save time when you arrive.
- Last entry is 30 minutes before closing.
Family Membership
After doing the math, we decided to get a family membership.
If you’re planning to visit Phipps more than once this year, it’s definitely worth looking into. Members get free admission, and with seasonal flower shows changing throughout the year, it’s easy to find a reason to go back.
