SUMMARY:Allegheny Observatory Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Allegheny Observatory is an astronomical research institution\, a part of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh. The facility is listed on the National Register of Historical Places and is designated as a Pennsylvania state and Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation historic landmark. \nNight tours are every Thursday from from April through August. \nAll tours begin at 8 p.m. and last until approximately 10 p.m. A short slide or film presentation is shown followed by a walking tour of the building finally ending up at the 13″ Fitz-Clark refractor (one of only two in existence). If it’s a clear night you would be shown whatever celestial objects are within range of the telescope that night. The tours are free of charge but you must have a reservation. To make a reservation call 412-321-2400 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

DESCRIPTION:Round trip scenic tour rides that travel up and down the lines lasting about 1 hour. Take a scenic ride along the beautiful Allegheny River\, from Schenley to Johnetta. On certain days\, due to various factors\, they may use the original line along the Kiski River from Schenley to Bagdad. \nThe train leaves the station precisely at 2:00pm. Please leave enough time in your travel schedule to get to our train station 30 minutes prior to our departure time. Seating is on a first-come first-serve basis. \nNote: There are no restrooms on the trains. However\, there are portable facilities at the train station. \nTour Rides occur on Tuesdays\, Fridays and Saturdays; June – October + events in December. DESCRIPTION:The Pittsburgh Irish Festival\, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation created to contribute to the rich cultural awareness of Irish history and tradition that exists in Pittsburgh. In addition to our three day “Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Festival\,” the Pittsburgh Irish Festival has expanded into a year-round resource for education and cultural programs through the creation of the Irish Education Outreach Program. The Program’s primary objective is to create a higher awareness of the ethnic richness and significance of the Irish and Irish-American culture and presence\, from both a historic and contemporary perspective. In-service consultants are available to community groups and organizations as well as to interested school districts.
