Ticket availability is limited. Reserve your spot today! \nLimited same-day tickets may be available on July 4 at the Science Center’s ticket counter. Parking will be $20 per car and is not guaranteed. \nThroughout the event\, visitors will be able to view Born to be Wild in Rangos Omnimax Theater\, see the live show Fire and Ice\, and experience the live Works Theater show Illumination Sensation\, which explores the science of light. During one special performance at 7:30 pm\, an aerialist will dance suspended in the air on silks. SUMMARY:70 Years of Celebration in the Lawrenceville Community
DESCRIPTION:For 70 years\, the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Lawrenceville has continued to hold an Independence Day festival that is filled with softball and baseball games\, children’s races\, Citipark’s Art Cart\, KSWA wrestling show\, pony rides\, a petting zoo\, music and entertainment\, refreshments\, and\, of course\, world-class Zambelli fireworks. This year the celebration will take place on July 5\, 2014 beginning at 11:00 a.m. in Arsenal Park. \nThe Lawrenceville Fireworks Committee\, a group of resident volunteers\, has been the governing force behind the celebration for many years. Working closely with Lawrenceville United for event and logistical support\, they spend their evenings and weekends in planning meetings\, purchasing supplies\, recruiting support and planning an off-season fundraiser. Despite the growth and development of Lawrenceville in recent years\, it is a community event that has stood the test of time and continues to bring long-time area residents\, their families\, and the newer area residents together for a day of celebration in Arsenal Park. DESCRIPTION:The Allegheny Observatory is an astronomical research institution\, a part of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh. The facility is listed on the National Register of Historical Places and is designated as a Pennsylvania state and Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation historic landmark. \nNight tours are every Thursday from from April through August. \nAll tours begin at 8 p.m. and last until approximately 10 p.m. A short slide or film presentation is shown followed by a walking tour of the building finally ending up at the 13″ Fitz-Clark refractor (one of only two in existence). If it’s a clear night you would be shown whatever celestial objects are within range of the telescope that night. The tours are free of charge but you must have a reservation. To make a reservation call 412-321-2400 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This non-profit event is hosted by the East Allegheny Community Council and supported by bordering neighborhood groups The Spring Hill Civic League\, Community Alliance of Spring Garden East Deutschtown and the Troy Hill Citizens\, Inc. \nSponsors for this year’s event are WYEP\, Highmark\, The Sprout Fund\, The Buhl Foundation\, Hear Corp and Stage AE. \nFamily-friendly daytime activities include a flea market\, artists’ market\, Citiparks Roving Art Cart\, multiple food vendors and trucks. Numerous musical acts are spread over three outdoor stages\, a singer-songwriter showcase in Bistro To Go and a gospel stage at Damascus Church of God in Christ. James Street Speakeasy will play host to over 15 different jazz performers starting at 1pm and continuing late into the night. \nBeginning at 8pm – 13 different walkable venues (with 15 stages) host over 60 bands\, one per hour. \nA free shuttle bus will transport attendees around the neighborhood – including a stop at the North Shore T station close to PNC Park. \nThe purpose of this event is to promote the vibrant Deutschtown neighborhood while also showcasing the amazing local talent in the Pittsburgh region. The event takes place in Allegheny Cemetery\, the sixth oldest rural cemetery in the United States. We will have four folk bands\, specializing in Stephen Foster era music\, educational tours of Allegheny Cemetery (including Foster’s burial place)\, costumed re-enactors and other outdoor activities. On hand will be food vendors and other organization tables. \nDoo Dah Days is an event that will celebrate the life and music of one the most influential song writers in America’s history\, while helping draw attention to the history of Pittsburgh B.C. (before Carnegie). \n“Pittsburgh B.C.” represents pre-industrial Pittsburgh\, an era when most of the present city was largely rural and sparsely settled. Our goal is to hearken back to a simpler time when the twin cities of Pittsburg and Allegheny City co-existed along the rivers and where river boats were a common scene.
