DESCRIPTION:The Pittsburgh Urban Chicken Coop Tour is a one-day\, self-guided tour of urban chicken coops in the City of Pittsburgh brought to you by the Pittsburgh Pro-Poultry People (P4). \n  \nHow it Works:\nTickets can be purchased on the morning of the tour at several coffee shops\, stores\, homesteads\, and other locations that will be announced.  Stay tuned. \nOnce you purchase your ticket\, you will receive a map and list of addresses for all of the coops.  It is self guided from there\, but is spread throughout Pittsburgh\, so having your own transportation is necessary.  You can visit the coops in any order.  Pick a few or visit all of them! \nThere will likely be a guided bike tour as well\, but Pittsburgh being Pittsburgh\, we recommended this option for seasoned bikers. \n  \nWhat You’ll Get: \nThe tour seeks to educate visitors about keeping hens and delight them with garden ideas and backyard sustainability projects. Open to adults and children\, the tour showcases various styles of chicken coops and breeds. Urban chicken farmers are on hand at each location to discuss the how-to’s of chicken keeping. There are opportunities to photograph and get to know the chickens up close and personal. A wide-variety of coop styles\, as well as the surrounding backyard gardens\, make the tour interesting and fun for the whole family!

Each Sunday\, the nursery transforms into a vibrant event space that features bands\, beer from local breweries\, food trucks and a farmer’s marketplace. They have also have been known to have squirt gun battles and hula-hoop fun for kids of all ages. More than just an event\, this collaboration of local folks was built with the intention of supporting and promoting small businesses. With a permit that allows for expansion\, this year Weather Permitting is growing and able to offer additional space for local farm stands and other vendors to promote and sell their goods on site.
