SUMMARY:Mini-Factory Preschool Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Mini-Factory is a FREE interactive learning program at the Mattress Factory Museum. It’s designed specifically for children ages 3-6 years old and their parents and/or caregivers that uses contemporary installation art as the basis for enabling parents and educators to explore education ideas. \nYoung children will explore a variety of themes and installations at the Mattress Factory\, participate in story time with our partners form Reading is FUNdamental and the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Allegheny and work on a collaborative project in our Mini-Factory. The Mini-Factory is a mobile\, adaptable pop-up space that children can help to build and use to explore new ideas and concepts. Young artists will participate in projects that promote making and sharing. \n\nMini-Factory : COLOR @ 10am\nMini-Factory : MY FACTORY @ 10am\nMini-Factory : VIEWPOINT @ 11am\n\nMINI-FACTORY is FREE but you must RSVP to felice[at]mattress.org or at 412.231.3169 because space is limited. \nYou can sign up for workshops individually. Please let us know if you are unable to attend so we can contact those people on our waiting list. Parents must accompany children and participate in the activities with their child. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Allegheny Observatory Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Allegheny Observatory is an astronomical research institution\, a part of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh. The facility is listed on the National Register of Historical Places and is designated as a Pennsylvania state and Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation historic landmark. \nNight tours are every Thursday from from April through August. \nAll tours begin at 8 p.m. and last until approximately 10 p.m. A short slide or film presentation is shown followed by a walking tour of the building finally ending up at the 13″ Fitz-Clark refractor (one of only two in existence). If it’s a clear night you would be shown whatever celestial objects are within range of the telescope that night. The tours are free of charge but you must have a reservation. To make a reservation call 412-321-2400 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
