Indoor inflatable play area are becoming quite the rage in Pittsburgh. Whether you’re looking to escape the scorching heat of the summer sun or looking to blow off a little pent up energy in the winter, the bouncing structures offer great fun for the whole family. I’ve seen everyone from toddlers trying to get their bearings straight to teenagers and adults playing dodgeball (not at the same time of course).  With reasonable prices and year-round hours, we certainly see the appeal.

Bouncing Off the Wall at Bounce-U

Located in Warrendale (North Hills), Bounce-U is a huge indoor play space with inflatable structures and huge bounce stadiums. Upon entering, you’ll be welcomed into a lobby where first time visitors will be asked to sign a waiver (or you can complete one online). Before each session begins, parents and children gather together to watch a short safety video detailing the rules.

Inside, there are two large rooms with about 8 different bouncing structures including 2 slides, a bouncy basketball course, noodle t-ball and obstacle course. There’s a few games in the lobby area as well as ice cream bars for purchase. They don’t have a concession stand so don’t come hungry!

While they allow for walk-in participation, we highly recommend calling and reserving a spot. Each session runs for approximately an hour and a half and are scheduled throughout their business hours from 10:30am – 6:30pm (with some sessions lasting until 8:00pm). We attended a “Preschool Playdate” weekday session and there were approximately 35 other children as well, most of them looked to be about 2 or 3 years old.

Check their website for times and details about special events such as Preschool Playdate, Cosmic Bounce, Sensory-Friendly Bounce, Open Bounce and Family Bounce Night. Socks are required.

Tips on Planning a Playdate

If you’re looking to visit multiple times, I’d suggest purchasing a Groupon. For $20 you can purchase a pass for 5 visits! Make sure you call ahead and reserve your spot!  While it’s a soft, cushiony playplace, participants should be steady walkers. The Preschool Playdate session seemed ideal for children ages 2 – 3 years as there were no older kids zooming past. Bounce-U does not offer food, but if you’re looking for a bite to eat while you’re in the area there’s a few great restaurants a stonethrow away: Aviva Brick Oven pizza, Walnut Grill, Max & Ermas, Perkins and more located down the road in either direction. From Bounce-U,  it’s about a 15 minute drive to North Park so a summertime picnic would be nice, too!
